Ouch.....

So....not only was Cassel not worth a 1st round pick, he was barely worth a second round pick either, as the Pats had to throw in Mike Vrabel just to move Cassel to the Chiefs for a high second round pick.

If I read between the lines here correctly, the market for Cassel was not nearly as strong as some media members speculated. Perhaps other teams have also noticed the weaknesses in Cassel's game: his near ineffectiveness when blitzed, the poor performance when not in the shotgun formation, and the inclination to run first instead of pass. I guess this goes to show that maybe the rest of the NFL isn't as stupid as we thought.

This isn't a full-blown disaster for the Patriots, but it is certainly a disappointment for fans like me who would rather have watched Mike Vrabel for one more year and were hoping that some team would be reckless enough to part with multiple draft picks for Cassel. The Chiefs look like big winners here--two immediate starters for the 34th pick in the draft! Time will tell if this move works for the Pats.
