NFL draft thus far...

Hard to believe how ridiculous it is to try and follow the NFL draft. The event is preceded by 2 months of hype and buildup, and subsequently the success of your favorite team can't be determined for another 2-3 years. Furthermore, all the hype is directed at the first round, whereas it seems clear that draft success is highly dependent on the lower rounds.

That being said, it's hard not to be intrigued with it on the actual day of the draft.

Thus far, New England has traded down from the 7th pick to the 10th and acquiring an extra 3rd-round pick (smart move), whereas the Jaguars have traded up to the 8th spot and have given up 3 of their picks (not so smart).

New England just selected ILB Jerod Mayo. A linebacker in the first round! About time! Love the boos from the local New Yorkers when the Patriots were on the clock.

Ugh, Chris Berman just went for the "10-yard penalty for holding the Mayo" joke. Deafening silence. Mel Kiper has nothing but nice things to say about the pick, probably since he's still smarting from 2005 when he criticized the Patriots for picking future Pro Bowler Logan Mankins.

No tax on beer!

Bay Area College Republicans are protesting the proposed tax on beer.

Seems like this should be a bipartisan issue...
