blogging is HARD....or I'm really LAZY

So it only took one post for me to completely neglect the whole blogging thing. I think the idea of writing down what I eat was a poor one, but I'll try and stick with it a little longer.

Generally, I've been having multigrain Cheerios for breakfast, a light lunch at the cafeteria at work, and various healthy foods for dinner. My wife makes a pretty tasty spinach salad, complete with dried cranberries, crushed almonds, and an occasional dash of citrus-y goodness. Top the salad off with a piece of baked salmon and garlic, and it's a good meal. On the occasions where I have to make dinner myself, I've made oatmeal with dried blueberries. Tonight, I was going to add some crushed almonds in there, but I couldn't find where we keep them (my wife is out of town). I added macadamia nuts in there instead. Pretty tasty too. This earthy diet appears to be working--I've lost 4 lbs over the last two weeks.

I have cheated a few times over the past week. On Sunday, we had some people over for breakfast, so I made banana pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage patties. Oh, the smell of bacon...SOOO enticing. But I managed to avoid the pork products, except that I used some bacon grease in the pan when making the eggs. Not surprisingly, the eggs were delicious. On Tuesday, I went out to a Sichuan restaurant for lunch, and someone ordered these humongous garlic-rubbed pork ribs with pieces of fat all over them. Couldn't turn them down. But I've been pretty good otherwise.

All in all, it hasn't been too bad. I have to admit that I don't really feel as hungry as I thought I would; mostly I just feel frustrated when something fatty and delicious is put in front of me and I'm forced to pass it up. But cutting back on portions hasn't been painful at all. It's surprising how only a little bit of food can completely satisfy your hunger. It got me thinking about how I always try to finish my plate. This was something that everyone's parents wanted their kids to do, right? Yet, this is pretty deadly when combined with many restaurants' propensity to serve very large portions of food (Buca di Beppo, I'm looking at you). I mean, isn't it odd when you go to a restaurant and your server follows up "Have you ever been here before?" with "So you are aware of the size of our portions?"

Eh, that's enough food talk. Food is constantly on my mind these days, but I've got to start blogging about something different, or I'm going to go nuts.
